Azure Site Recovery VM Generation Choice
So you want to use Azure Site Recovery for your new vm setup. Before you begin you need to first think about a few things. One how big will the disk size be that my vm will have. This is important due to you cannot change the Generation type on your vm once it is created.
Azure Site Recovery supports both Generation 1 and Generation 2 type vm’s but there are limits to this. Generation 2 while it does have advantages over Generation 1 the downside is that ASR only allows 300Gb of per virtual disk. So if for instance you want to have a database server backed by ASR so that it recovery in azure quickly you may want to look at Generation 1 vm types as they allow up to 4tb per disk which gives your large database room to grow. There are other methods that can get around this but they are more complex and may require more money than most are willing to spend.
